Justice Department “Not Aware” of Identity Theft After Medicare Data Breach

Officials continue investigating the cyberattack on a consulting firm holding Medicare data.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has not yet found any instance of identity theft due to a large data breach that exposed Medicare enrollee information last year. The data was compromised in May 2023 when Greylock McKinnon Associates, the consulting firm holding the data, reported a cyberattack that exposed the social security numbers of 341,650 people.

“While the Justice Department is not aware of any specific reports of identity theft or other fraud resulting from this incident, the Department has ensured that those impacted have been offered fraud resolution services and credit monitoring,” said Justice Department spokesperson Wyn Hornbuckle. “The investigation of this matter is ongoing.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Justice Department officials as they investigate the data breach and assess the potential risk of identity theft.
  • For U.S. cyber security professionals as they seek to improve cyber infrastructure against hacking and ransomware.
